Lai Yuen, the iconic amusement park that breathes nostalgia, has opened its first restaurant – a cha chaan teng on Tsim Sha Tsui’s Granville Road. Its retro interior features motifs of carousel and chandelier replicating the classic carnival theme in a contemporary fashion. On the menu are modern takes on classic Hong Kong dishes, such as chicken drumsticks, slow-cooked beef brisket curry, and the highly recommended roasted whole chicken with glutinous rice, a classic dish inspired by the chef’s childhood. To complement the nostalgic menu, the restaurant displays artworks by four local artists inspired by elements of Lai Yuen. What’s more, to celebrate Lai Yuen Restaurant’s grand opening, all sets receive a 10 per cent discount until June 30, 2017.
