Pop-ups, Crossovers and Events This February

Gastronomes are in luck this month! Big named chefs are joining forces to create one-off and exclusive menus to please the palates of folks in the 852, while a much-anticipated dining event returns with more participating restaurants than ever. Here goes our New Year’s resolution.

Grassroots Pantry x Nate Green of Rhoda
When: Feb 22, 6pm and 8.30pm

Grassroots Pantry’s Peggy Chan teams up with Nate Green of Rhoda for a plant-based “nose-to-tail” (or “fruit-to-root”), zero-waste dinner menu. There are two seatings (6pm and 8.30pm) on the night, with innovative dishes served over seven courses such as spiced cauliflower with slow-cooked egg, shiitake-teff gnocchi with sprouted walnut-herb pesto (look out for the recipe in our March issue!), and pear bavarois with earl grey caramel. Kissaten #003: Potato Head Hong Kong X Elliot Faber

Lovers of great tunes and Japanese sakes should not miss the final installment of Kissaten, a collaboration between Potato Head and Elliot Faber of Sunday’s Grocery, Yardbird and RONIN. The handsome beverage director has curated a selection of unique sakes to be enjoyed over a vinyl soundtrack of disco sub-genre “morning music” at this one-night-only event. Sakes available on the night include Chikusen “Black Label” Junmai Daiginjo, Sunday’s Nigori, and more. Tickets start at $150 (includes one drink). Get your tickets here.

 

Restaurant Week 2017 Spring Edition

Our favourite restaurant event returns this spring for 10 days of culinary extravaganza! This time there are over 100 restaurants to choose from, with newcomers such as Bizou, Bueno Aires Polo Club and Tokyolima, as well as old favourites including Carbone, Fofo by el Willy and Whisk. As usual, there are exclusive lunch and dinner menus in two price categories: $118 for lunch/$298 for dinner, and $198 for lunch/$398 for dinner. Online reservations can be made at restaurantweek.hk starting from Feb 13 at 10am.

 

Top & Michelle X Test Kitchen
When: Feb 23 to 25
Where: Test Kitchen, 158A Connaught Road West, Sai Ying Pun

You may not have heard of Pongcharn Russell (aka Top) and Michelle Goh, but the young husband and wife duo are eager to show Hong Kong what they are made of. They have trained under renowned chefs from across the world (including Pierre Gagnaire’s Sketch in London and Neil Perry’s Rockpool in Sydney), are known to hero humble ingredients and will be arriving a week early in Hong Kong to create a menu using only local ingredients.
